15.0 The City will retain heritage trees on street rights -of -way, in parks, and on other City <br /> property, except when otherwise necessary for the public health, safety, or welfare. <br /> The Public Works Department has adopted a tree removal policy limiting the <br /> circumstances under which a tree can be removed. The larger trees to be <br /> removed are posted for public information and comment. <br /> 16.0 The City.will develop and distribute information on the special characteristics of <br /> heritage trees. <br /> Trees of Eugene - A tour highlighting a selection of Eugene's pre-statehood <br /> trees. <br /> l�� &E Distributed by request and through displays at City Hall, Public Works, <br /> '` Lane County Historical Museum, and other public outlets. <br /> The Public Works Dept. is inventory all trees along street rights -of -way and on <br /> maintained public property which includes noting all heritage class trees <br /> The City has purchased a tree inventory program and will inventory all <br /> 7 Ire- :: • • •i . ,lic streets 1 # within maintained public properties with <br /> v t • next five yes . <br /> 17.0 The City will encourage retaining heritage trees on private property, except when <br /> otherwise necessary for the public health, safety, or welfare. Monitor results after two <br /> years. Revisit use of the word "require" at that time. <br /> Upon request of the Planning Department or from the public the Office of the <br /> Urban Forester determines the heritage tree status, then provide information on <br /> how to maintain a heritage tree. <br /> EDUCATION <br /> 18.0 The City will provide and distribute information to interested citizens, property <br /> owners, and development community on proper tree selection relative to climate, solar <br /> aspect, soils, potential fire hazard, water regimen, and on proper tree siting and <br /> maintenance. <br /> Planter's Handbook of Street Trees <br /> provided to all NeighborWoods participants, by request, and at the PIC, <br /> City Hall, Public Works, Lane County Extension, and Home & Garden <br /> Show. <br /> The 'Buddy . . ." postcard set on tree care.
