This technique helps maintain adequate line <br /> clearance while reducing future tree trimming. <br /> 7.0 The City will adopt measures intended to ensure that new trees planted on public land <br /> and along. street rights -of -way are of the highest quality, require low maintenance, and <br /> do not interfere with public safety. <br /> The "Tree Planters Handbook" contains placement standards for tree planting to <br /> ensure that the trees will not grow to interfere with public safety. (pages 1,2,& <br /> 3) <br /> The Public Works Department has adopted tree planting policies that require <br /> the use of proper planting technique for plots. This policy is used on all City <br /> sponsored and approved projects. <br /> 8.0 The City will amend the Eugene Code to protect trees on public land and street rights - <br /> of -way from the potential adverse impacts of construction-related activities. <br /> The Public Works Department has adopted tree protection standa is all work <br /> done near trees <br /> 9.0 The City will retain healthy public trees that do not compromise the defensible space <br /> around buildings and other structures for the health, safety, and welfare of the public. <br /> The Public Works Department has adopted a tree removal policy limiting the <br /> circumstances under which a tree can be removed. (pages 1,2,& <br /> 3) <br /> Amend the Eugene Code to require that one percent of the total dedicated Road <br /> Funds expended through the Capital Budget for street construction and <br /> reconstructions (excluding overlays) be set aside for associated landscaping on <br /> o near project locations. <br />
