MAR.3 Page 1
URBAN FORESTRY 3 -10 REPORT
March 1997
IMPORTANT NEWSWORTHY LATE BREAKING ITEM...
KEVIN FOERSTLER IS A SUPERVISOR! REPEAT, KEVIN FOERSTLER IS A SUPERVISOR!
This is not a drill! For the next several months, Kevin will be AIC as the Technical Support Supervisor.
We all wish Kevin the best of luck and will miss his dry wit and excellent assistance to the urban Forestry
Program.
NeighborWoods 97:
I have just returned to the office after spending part of the day with Nate delivering trees. The program is
right on track and it appears that we will plant close to 1000 trees during the 96 -97 planting season. We
have just completed a very successful Arbor Week tree planting schedule. With the help of over 50
volunteers, we planted 110 trees at 17 different sites. We hope to wrap up the planting by the end of April.
Urban Forestry Program:
The construction season has begun in ernest. Scott and Mike are busy inspecting sites on both private and
public property. We have had some successful sewer repair work completed around larger trees. It can be a
somewhat slow process but, through patient coaching the contractors have performed well.
As for other projects, 42 trees have been scheduled to be contracted planted along the right -of -way at
Crescent Ave. This planting is a result of the new code change that requires the planting of new street trees
as part of new developments. This is a new program and we are expecting to see a significant increase in
both the number and quality of trees planted within Eugene. In addition, 35 trees have been planted along
Hwy. 99 as part of the final wrap up of a state grant that was awarded in the 92/93 planting season.
As for the monthly stat's.
March Program Activity:
Phone Calls -797
NeighborWoods Phone Calls -163
Permits Issued -3
Inspections Public -129
Inspections Private -24
Violation Investigations -25
NeighborWoods Tree's Planted 167
Contracted Trees Planted -35
