November 19, 1996
TO: Neighborhood Leaders Group
FROM: Johnny Medlin, Maintenance Support Manager
Roland Hoskins, Service Improvement Team
Marge Boutell, Service Improvement Team
SUBJECT: Urban Forestry Service Profile
Attached, please find a draft of the Urban Forestry service profile. We are asking that you read
the following profile in preparation for giving the City your impressions and ideas about this
profile at your November 26 meeting.
One of the City Council's strategies for 1995 is to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of
city services through the implementation of the Service Improvement Program. This program
encompasses 49 city services, and the process of completing a service profile for each city
service is slated to take three years. Service Improvement team members conduct a series of
meetings with service providers, resulting in a four page document for each service. The Budget
Committee reviews and adopts these service profiles. The desired result of the service profile
process is a move toward customer focused service, agreement on goals, results and measures,
and consistent description of services to policy makers and the public.
The Budget Committee has asked that service profiles receive input from citizens. As we have
no formal Urban Forestry advisory committee at this time, we would appreciate your input about
the following sections of the profile: the mission, outcomes, total system measures, strategies and
objectives. We've attached a short questionnaire to help you with this task.
Thank you, in advance, for your attention to this matter.
