I am glad you helped convince Shawn that fruit trees are better in parks than
the R /W. I am gathering info on fruit trees and developing a community orchard concept on park property.
As you know there are many issues involved with fruit trees and when I have a draft report ready we can
meet, review, and discuss this topic. I would appreciate your perspective prior to responding to Shawn.
Thanks Scott
From: ANDERSEN Chris F
To: HAMMITT Bob; MEDLIN Johnny R; PLAMONDON Scott F
Subject: RE: Role of Urban Forester
Date: Friday, April 28, 1995 11:22AM
Really nice note, guys! Yesterday when I was driving Shawn up
to Salem he mentioned he had had a nice conversation with you,
Scott, and wanted you to look at our restrictions re: fruit
trees in the R/W to help out gleaners. We talked about Park
locations or possible spaces near community gardens as being
more appropriate than street R/W and Shawn was in agreement.
I don't know what your thoughts are about this fruit trees for
gleaning approach but perhaps we can discuss. Thanks, Chris
From: MEDLIN Johnny R
To: PLAMONDON Scott F
Cc: HAMMITT Bob; ANDERSEN Chris F
Subject: FW: Role of Urban Forester
Date: Thursday, April 27, 1995 12:13PM
Scott,
The below is a big turn around from some of the references we
received last year on the Urban Forester position. I'm
impressed that your are receiving this with being on -board for
such a short time. It is very nice to receive this type of
memo from other departments. This month we have had
hearings on three large residential PUD in the SW hills, all
having signficant tree issues. The City Council has expressed
interest and concern on how these developments progress,
particularly Nancy. Scott's expertise and willingness to
assist have been invaluable. I know he is maxed out, but I
believe he knows how to pick his battles, and he has done so.
His participation in the process and the hearings has resulted
in a great deal of education for planning staff, Hearings
Official, developers, and citizens.
