General Input on Profile
Description/Trends areas
Need to clarify that the service has two components: trees in the public right -of -way services and
park trees and those services available to people with trees on private property (e.g., education,
analysis, advice).
Expand service description to include the undeveloped areas within parks (e.g., forests in
Hendricks Park).
Trend (changing priorities). Need to prune the entire tree inventory every 10 years.
This was mentioned by Johnny, not a BC member, but I think it's a useful fact to include.
Include in description that the forest ecosystems are used as "natural laboratories" by our
schools.
Has City changed policy to encourage tree canopy? Only situations in which trees providing
greater canopy are discouraged are when pavement/planting area won't support a larger tree or
when overhead power lines restrict its growth.
I think this question was answered sufficiently at the meeting, but we may want to see if
there's a way to fit this into the trends or description.
Describe the tree ordinance responsibilities better. When does the service manage tree- cutting
71 ( permits in non - development situations (e.g., heritage trees). ,1'
0
Describe in greater length the tree cutting ordinance (is this the same thing as above ?) If this
activity takes a lot of time, mention that.
What about replacement tree program funding? Is there a program similar to Springfield's?
Describe the interagency coordination in the narrative or issues section.
Update on Intergovernmental agreement: did it expire in 1996 or when is it due to expire?
Reference LTD, EWEB communication to us on pruning needs.
Operating Principles ( ' f
Put last sentence as the first operating principle. _ 0 \, Ig \ ofiL `
Work Activities P
v
Add work activities to Strategy 2: L ✓)
Coordinate tree location with placement of utility lines (is this the right word ?). l Get list from PIC of trees code now requires be planted when new developments have 0 10)
setback sidewalks. 1"
Need to maintain capacity to handle staff citizen complaint service. Measure this so some sort of
balance can be achieved between proactive and reactive service.
This could be either a work activity or an additional objective to Strategy 3
Memo/Discussion w/ Nancy
How to you shift to a proactive tree pruning plan? (Age, topography, soil conditions, etc.)
