• More positive programs such as pothole program —high visibility programs
$$ This is a re- occurring theme and additional work needs to be completed
to frame this idea and develop a work plan. (Jim McLaughlin and Jeff'
Ganieany)
• Program that would allow public to "ride'" along with dump trucks, etc. "like
in police car"' Additional work needs to be completed to frame this idea and
develop a feasibility study (Jim McLaughlin and Jeff Ganieany)
• Show what and where the money is going and being used for We do this
during and after emergency events – see news article. On a day by day view
not sure of the audience, subject matter, areas of interest? Additional work
needs to be completed to frame this idea and develop a plan (Jim
McLaughlin and Jeff Ganieany)
LENGTH OF TRAINING ASSIGNMENTS Bullets 1, 5, 8, and 20
Management is committed to providing adequate training and cross training. The length
of special assignments and cross training program will be reviewed and commitment of
managers to allow training to take place will be reiterated to supervisors.
Supervisors are responsible for tracking the MW 1/2 program and scheduling cross
training assignments. They will be held accountable for the success of the program.
(Tom Larsen & Jim LaCasse)
Job shadowing could be a way of expanding training opportunities.
LEAD WORKER ROLE Bullets 6, 9, 12, 23 and 25
Management has supported lead workers taking on the full range of duties as outlined in
their job description. Those duties include responsibility for scheduling crews, planning
work and budgets, supporting employee training and development, delegating when
appropriate and involvement in planning future activities. Lead workers are responsible
for planning and scheduling work more than simply being the most experienced worker
at a particular task. That leadership skill set is more important than the specific skill set
needed on a particular crew.
An ad hoc lead workers support and training group has been suggested. (Tom Larsen &
Jim LaCasse)
OPEN DOOR Bullets 15 and 16
We have an open door policy. Section Managers included the open door concept
developing our Mission, Vision and Values. The expectation is that managers and
supervisors are available and approachable for any and all issues. The policy is based on
attitude more than whether the door is actually open or closed. There are environmental
or work task reasons why not all doors are open all the time. The critical feature is
creating an open policy is creating an inviting environment where employees can talk to
supervisors and managers.
The open door policy will be reiterated to supervisors and managers. (Tom Larsen & Jim
LaCasse)
PW Open House Day (aka Public Works Day)
1. Cut out all together
2. Was for general public
3. Now it's for school children
4. Expand outwards to ALL voting public
9
