Know what resources field staff really needs <br /> T his relates to the previous answer in that technological changes should be <br /> discussed with all team members who are affected by the advancement /change in <br /> order to mesh the technology with the operational needs of the team performing the <br /> work. <br /> 10. Understanding the resources that are available <br /> This is an educational component that should involve team members, the supervisor <br /> and the section manager in determining resource needs and limitations. <br /> 11. Train younger /newer employees instead of retiring employees <br /> All employees bring to the work place a unique set of skills and abilities. <br /> Determining the best use of available training should be discussed at the team level <br /> to ensure everyone is receiving the most appropriate and beneficial training. <br /> 12. Balance of tech & getting job done. Tech should be used cautiously, moderately, <br /> judiciously <br /> Determining the correct balance to ensure that the addition of technology is <br /> assisting and not hindering the person performing the work is essential in ensuring <br /> we are able to complete our job assignments in the most efficient manner possible. <br /> Individual work teams should discuss the impact technology additions or changes <br /> has to their ability to complete their job duties to make sure all the impacts of the <br /> technological change is heard and understood. <br /> 13. Buy what you need to get job done <br /> Teams should work together to determine their needs when exploring the <br /> appropriate technology for their individual work programs. <br /> 14. Network with other agencies to see what works best <br /> Opportunities such as the APWA technical schools should continue to be used for <br /> networking with other agencies performing similar work to learn about and discuss <br /> ways of getting their work completed in the most efficient manner. The <br /> Maintenance Division's supervisors and lead workers have met with the City of <br /> Springfield Public Works operational staff in the past to share information and <br /> further develop working relationships. <br /> 15. Key to keep conduits of tech open <br /> All of us in the Maintenance Division should continue to look at better and more <br /> efficient ways of completing our work for the community. The advancement of <br /> technology is just one method of reaching this goal. <br /> 16. Use tech to do your job more efficiently <br /> The goal of technological change should be to assist us in performing our work more <br /> efficiently for the community and at the same time to make our jobs more satisfying <br /> and engaging. Ongoing communication and discussion within your work team will <br /> help to guide the best use of new technology as it becomes available for use on our <br /> teams. <br /> 25 <br />
