How /Why spend $ on PWM Events (Jeff Ganieany & Jim
McLaughlin)
1. Spend less on events
We currently try to balance cost with comfort ,example providing a muffins during the
morning hours so meeting attendees are focused on the subject and not their hunger ...
We could re- consider the balance?
2. Price comparisons
We currently attempt to use cost as a factor of consideration
3. Do away with public works day —use money for other events?
The decision to hold PW day is not made a divisional level, this topic is discussed
annually and it is felt that the residual value of the event still out weighs the hard costs
associated with it
4. Find more effective ways to market our values
This is a re- occurring theme and additional work needs to be completed to frame this
idea and develop a work plan.
5. Move Public Works day to weekend for more adults /older age group...
See # 3
6. More positive programs such as pothole program —high visibility programs $$
This is a re- occurring theme and additional work needs to be completed to frame this
idea and develop a work plan.
7. Programs that "help" public in the city
Examples of existing programs are: Wheel chair ramps, Interactive Ped Crossing devise,
and the leaf pick up program. We could look into other jurisdictions for ideas of other
programs.
8. Program that would allow public to "ride" along with dump trucks, etc. "like in
police car"
Additional work needs to be completed to frame this idea and develop a feasibility study
9. Publish what we do "e" how many miles of street sweeping or light bulbs make
public see the amount of work we do...
21
