Medlin, Maintenance Planner, 687 -5240 <br /> Sandra Gleason, Public Information, 687 -5523 <br /> FOR APRIL FIRST RELEASE <br /> OBNOXIOUS VEGETATION PROGRAM IS TRANSFERRED <br /> TO PUBLIC WORKS, MAINTENANCE DIVISION <br /> Effective January 1, the administration of the obnoxious vegetation <br /> program for the City of Eugene has been transferred from the Public Works <br /> Department's Engineering Division to the Maintenance Division. This program is <br /> responsible for the enforcement of the Municipal Code requirements for property <br /> owners to control all weeds, grass or other "obnoxious vegetation" upon their <br /> property and the abutting right -of -ways. <br /> According to J.R. Medlin, Maintenance Planner, this program has been very <br /> successful in the past with the available limited staff and resources in the <br /> Engineering Division. The movement of the program into the Maintenance <br /> Planning Section will allow the combination of duties and workload of several <br /> similar programs which will result in an increase in staff hours dedicated to <br /> the Vegetation Management program. "We are expecting this increase in staff <br /> time will greatly shorten our response time between receiving a vegetation <br /> complaint and our responding with a contractor to correct the problem." said <br /> Mr. Medlin. <br /> Mr. Medlin explained that the City urges property owners to perform or <br /> contract their own mowing and vegetation control services.
