MARATHON '07 PROPOSAL 2/17/2006 <br /> Contact: Richard Maher 913 -3537 <br /> Date of event: A Sunday in late April or early May, '07. Setup would occur on Saturday <br /> and the run would start at 7 AM on Sunday. <br /> Type of event: Marathon, half marathon and 5K runs <br /> Location of event: Start at Alton Baker Park, run on bike path and on Springfield streets <br /> and end at Autzen Stadium. <br /> Expected attendance: 2,000 -3,000 running in marathon, total of 5,000 to 10,000 <br /> participants and other visitors. <br /> Administrative /Permitting strategies: <br /> 1) Executive Director, under Section 1.072 of the Park Rules, waives Section <br /> 1.004(1)(c) to allow acceptance of a permit application for the event in the year <br /> prior to the scheduled event. Criteria, in PR 1.072, for the waiver include: <br /> a. Waiver is in the public interest. <br /> b. Waiver will not seriously prejudice or infringe upon the use and <br /> enjoyment of the park ... by others. <br /> Criteria supporting this approach: <br /> • Very large, nationally advertised event <br /> • Large economic benefit to the community <br /> • Broad community interest/identity with the event — we're "Track City" <br /> • No conflict with existing "December eligible" events <br /> • Supports our mission to provide "...diverse recreation experiences." <br /> C:\Documents and Settings \cewekpf\My Documents\Marathon 07 proposal.doc <br />
