For September 16, 1994 Council Newsletter
Adoption of the Amazon Park Development Plan
The Eugene Parks and Recreation Plan contains guidelines to be followed by staff in making
planning decisions regarding park development to be consistent with it's adopted goals and
policies. With these guidelines in mind, last spring staff began the process of updating the
Amazon Park Development Plan.
As specified in the public input plan reviewed by the Citizen's Involvement Committee, a public
input meeting was held in late March with a follow up public meeting in early June at the Hilyard
Community Center. These meetings afforded citizens and other public and private agencies an
opportunity to become acquainted with the park history, current proposals and issues, and to
express their concerns, objections, or support for various proposals or submit new proposals for
consideration. In response to oral, written and telephone comments received, preliminary and
draft revisions of the plan were prepared. The final draft was publicly posted at Hilyard
Community Center for four weeks, and all interested parties were notified by mail of the plan and
supplied with background information that had been considered in decisions related to the plan.
Since the final posting of the plan several written and oral comments have been received. While
some of those comments pertain to details appropriate to address during various implementation
phases of the plan, none offered new information or ideas that would indicate any inconsistency
with the other public comments received or previously adopted plans governing development of
this park. Therefore an administrative order (58- 94 -25) adopting the Amazon Park Development
Plan was executed by the Executive Director of Public Works on September 14, 1994. For more
information please contact John Etter or Johnny Medlin at 687 -5220.
