that could be enhanced and areas that could be developed
as ball fields.
d. Public survey data
(i) Collate existing formal community survey information that
has been gathered within the last ten years regarding
expressed desires for recreational opportunities within
Eugene and Amazon Park. Include the methods used (e.g.,
survey questions, survey outreach/methods, rate of return).
e. Planning proposals
(i) Assemble all existing planning proposals prepared within
Eugene during the past ten years for Amazon Park,
including both recreation and natural restoration plans.
2. Invite submission of reasonable options for Amazon Park and ballfields
(not necessarily limited to consideration of Amazon Park) by soliciting
community proposals, setting a deadline, e.g., of 2 months, after the
above information has been made available.
3. Undertake a new Amazon Park and ballfields master plan Prepare a draft
analysis of all reasonable alternatives for Amazon Park and ballfields
including the pros and cons of each alternative in light of the information
listed above. Utilize public assistance and input in amending the 1994
Amazon Park master plan.
All these steps should be undertaken with appropriate committee oversight,
community assistance and full transparency.
In addition, all discussions will be helped greatly by avoiding the term "needs"
when talking about "wants." Most of what is being talked about is "wants."
Please let me know if we can meet to talk further about the above proposed
process.
Mary O'Brien
485 -6886
mob@darkwing.uoregon.edu
