These steps, none of them requiring extensive time on the
part of Parks and Recreation staff, would open the process to invite innovative thinking
beyond tinkering with a single staff proposal.
1. Collate critical existing information useful for development of a range of
reasonable options for Amazon Park, within the context of the City as a
whole. All information should be made readily accessible publicly, and
assumptions used in generating estimates should be transparent.
Key information- collating efforts would address such topics as:
a. Usage
(i) Determine Amazon Park acreage and building space
devoted to different types of activities and approximate
annual hours of usage of these spaces. Both organized and
informal, active and passive recreational activities should
be accounted for.
(ii) Estimate vehicle presence associated with different usages.
(iii) Estimate lighting power (e.g., height, brightness) associated
with different usages
b. Costs
(i)
Estimate costs of construction and maintenance of Amazon
Park areas devoted to different recreational activities.
(ii)
Determine approximate expenditures on these different
areas during the past 10 years within Amazon Park.
(iii)
Show approximate income to Recreation and Parks
associated with different recreational activities.
C. Ballfield data
(i) Create a map of current soccer, base /softball fields on
school and City properties and an inventory of ball fields
