• Specific to Amazon Park, public involvement will be documented and utilized as part
of the overall decision - making process.
• POS staff is working collaboratively with staff in other City departments and agency
partners to coordinate with related planning efforts. In addition to the current parks
planning effort, projects that have been undertaken in the last ten years include:
♦ 1994 Amazon Park Master Plan;
♦ 1998 Parks and Open Space Bond Measure recommendations;
♦ Amazon Pool Renovation Capital Project;
♦ 2000 Upper Amazon Creek Enhancement Study;
♦ Stormwater Basin Planning; and
♦ Metro GI Study (in progress).
Links to these plans /documents can be made available on the Amazon Park website,
with the exception of the Metro GI study which is not yet available in electronic
format. A hardcopy document will be made available for review.
• Public comments, feedback, and input about Amazon Park are always welcome.
Staff has been actively soliciting this feedback — certainly, this is the primary
motivation for the series of public workshops currently underway. Staff continues to
encourage and accept public involvement and participation through the planning
process, which is anticipated to continue through the spring of 2004. This input can
be in any form, including alternative proposals. Well- attended and productive public
workshops are a high priority of public processes, and the Amazon Park process has
been very successful in this respect.
The desired outcome of the Amazon Park planning process is a plan that has strong
public support, meets a variety of public interests, and minimizes impacts on the
surrounding neighbors. To achieve these objectives, staff is considering all relevant
information, weighing pros and cons, and fully utilizing public input by providing
adequate, accessible information, and being open with our decision - making processes.
The plan format is anticipated to be both a physical plan (map), as well as a compilation
of the detailed research and analysis and public comment history. On behalf of the City
of Eugene, I appreciate your contribution to this effort. Please feel free to contact me if
you have additional questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Carolyn Weiss
Project Manager
Attachment:
Project List Matrix
Cc: Andrea Riner, POS Planning Manager
Johnny Medlin, POS Division Manager
Kurt Corey, PW Director
Angel Jones, LRCS Director
