Please
recognize that the project is still in the planning and public involvement
phase. We anticipate holding at least one or two additional meetings to
further refine the project. Based on the current work of the City's Parks &
Open Space division, there are several ways your issues may be addressed:
a) Portions of the request include items which have been explained or
addressed in an earlier meeting or communication, but may not have been
fully understood or easily disseminated. Staff will provide further
documentation and distribution of these items within the Amazon Park
planning process whenever feasible.
b) Several of the information request items are inherent in all of our park
planning processes, and therefore will be outcomes of the Amazon Park
planning work as it progresses. Staff will provide clarification of these items
with subsequent public information and public involvement efforts.
c) Portions of the request lie outside the feasibility of parks planning for any
individual park site. However, may of these are currently being undertaken
as part of the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Comprehensive Plan
which is currently underway. This information will be documented and
distributed to the community as it becomes available.
d) Every effort has been and will be made to provide up -to -date and
accessible information. Information will be made available on the Amazon
Park Planning Process web site
http: / /Www. ci. eugene. or. us/PW /PARKS /Amazon /AMZ project. ht or other
sites where specified.
With this in mind, detailed responses to your requested items will be
addressed as follows:
■ Acreage figures based on type of use have been computed and can be
made available. A map showing the different land uses and associated
acreage has been developed. This map will be posted on the Amazon Park
website.
■ Data is not readily available to provide the level of detail you request
regarding annual hours of usage of various recreation areas. While
participation in formally programmed activities can be estimated, usage of
informal and passive recreation facilities is not currently measured anywhere
in the City's parks and open space system. Other methodology, such as
community input and information regarding regional and national trends can
be helpful when site - specific details aren't available. The PROS
Comprehensive Plan work includes this type of information gathering on a
community -wide scale. Staff, consultants, and the Mayor's PROS Advisory
Committee are preparing a city -wide Parks & Open Space Analysis that
should be completed and available to the public this spring.
