MINUTES <br />Citizen Planning Committee for the Whilamut Natural Area <br />Heron Room – Willamalane Community Recreation Center <br />250 South 32 Street, Springfield <br />October 11, 2007 <br />6 p.m. <br />PRESENT: Howard Bonnett, Chair; Charlotte Behm, Sally Nunn, Charlene Larrison, Barbara <br />May, Charles Biggs, Andy Peara, Dennis Ernst, Vicky Mello, David Sonnichsen, <br />Cora Jones, Steve Cooper, members; Philip Richardson, Johnny Medlin, City of <br />Eugene; Pat French, Willamalane Parks and Recreation District. <br />ABSENT: Jeff Ard, member. <br />1. Review and Adjust Agenda <br />Mr. Bonnett called the meeting of the Citizen Planning Committee (CPC) to order. There were <br />no changes to the agenda. <br />2. Introductions <br />Those present introduced themselves. <br />3. Public Comment <br />Gene Holliter said he was looking forward to this year. He commented that the University of <br />Oregon was allowed to utilize the two large parking lots. He preferred to see that the park users <br />be able to use the parking lots exclusive of the University of Oregon or vice versa. He under- <br />scored that the lots were originally designed to be accessed by park users. <br />Catherine Larson found the meeting place in Springfield to be difficult to get to. She also <br />wished to express concern regarding the potential basketball arena project planned by the <br />University of Oregon and how it would affect parking. She wondered where all of the cars would <br />park and whether they would be utilizing the Autzen Stadium lot. She wanted to know who in <br />the University of Oregon would assume responsibility for foot and bicycle traffic through the <br />natural area. She also related that she had been frustrated to read the article in the Register Guard <br />regarding the return of the hammer throw area to the natural area. She had thought the issue had <br />been resolved in 1994. <br />Brittany Hinchcliffe said she was a hammer throw athlete and trained every day. Her goal was <br />to make the Olympic Team for 2008.
