Pizza at 1809 Franklin Blvd. Welcomes Nearby Nature on Wednesday May 4`" to Track Town Pizza for
a day of fundraising. Track Town did this twice a year.
One of Nearby Nature's employees (their Education Coordinator) was moving to California, and Mrs. Stein
is working on finding a replacement.
Ms. Mello asked about the Park Host Report.
Ms. Stein said she would check with Ms. Lamb and get it sent to the CPC.
Ms. Mello said the CPC appreciated Ms. Lamb's work.
Ms. Stein said that Ms. Lamb and the Education Coordinator worked extensively with Nearby Nature's
volunteers.
Ms. Ferschweiler gave Ms. Stein a flyer on a teacher workshop about native plants that would occur that
summer.
8. She noted the Steep Hill
Chase, which had exposed the roots. People were using these to climb up and down the hill. This was
degrading the tree roots.
Mr. Richardson said he had talked to Jesse Cary- Hobbs, POS Natural Resource Specialist about this. Jesse
had said something would be done about it, but not until the summer when the ground was thoroughly dry.
Ms. Brand said that she had been asking about this issue for a year.
Mr. Richardson said that fencing was expensive, and people had mentioned boulders or rocks at the last
meeting. This was probably what would happen. He asked her to ask about this again at the next CPC
meeting, when he would know what would happen about the exposed roots.
Ms. Moore left at 6:38 p.m.
Ms. Brand thanked Mr. Richardson for bringing signs for the bird nesting area. She volunteered to put the
first round of signs out. She imagined future rounds would be needed, but she would put them out as soon
as possible because the birds were already nesting. She asked for a volunteer to check the signs in mid- to
late -May. If needed, new signs would be put out. She would put stakes on each sign.
Ms. Mello noted the restrictions on depths for stakes based on the landfill. She was concerned about the
signs being taken out because of this.
Mr. Biggs said that the restriction was not "official."
Mr. Richardson said that the restriction was probably not an issue with the signs. An inspector had come
out and was doing inspections related to the bridge project. It was possible he could monitor the signs, but
14
MINUTES — Citizen Planning Committee for the April 21, 2011 Page 5
Whilamut Natural Area
