Contacts
are:
Facilities — Larry Morris, x2742
POS — Rob Hallett, x4935
CSD — Mark Loigman, x5307
The Design Charrette sub - committee, Carolyn, Meredith, and Karm, will reconvene in order to confirm a date
projected to be sometime in May, so that staff can get it on their calendars.
Mark thanked the committee for all of the time, creative ideas, and thoughtful planning that have gone into the
five sessions and said that it was his hope that this group would be willing to serve as a resource in the future
as Cuthbert Amphitheater becomes integrated into Alton Baker Park.
Issues list generated from a Cuthbert "walk- through"
1. Relocate Pre's Trail to the south and expand fence out to new trail in order to expand backstage parking
area ST — POS /Carolyn
Carolyn will start the process as soon as possible; plan where the trail will be; check in with involved
track clubs; develop a "phasing plan;" identify funding for relocation, including new lighting; establish
time line.
2. Improve waterway fencing. Research "reel- type" barriers similar to the ones used at swimming pools
ST — FAC/Meredith
Any reel -type fencing found, so far, has been too small and could easily be lifted up so that a boater
could paddle under. After much discussion about how to block the waterway from backstage access, it
was suggested that two "tree falls" be installed at each end of the waterway. ST — POS /Carolyn
Other ideas included: a floating dock with fencing LT
bright lights aimed at the island to discourage onlookers. ST — CSD /Mark
Johnny suggested that the park rules could include closing the area if CSD security acted as the
enforcer. He and Mark will continue that discussion.
3. Backstage
• Fill in waterway to gain space "Mitigation fees" are $50,000 /acre. LT
• Improve access by adding pervious, permanent surface
Investigate environmental impact ST — POS /Carolyn
After much discussion, decision was made to wait until the Design Charrette happens to see
what ideas are generated about the entire backstage area.
• Move stage forward to increase stage size and backstage area ST — CSD/Mark
