The Science Factory Children's Museum & Planetarium
Parkland Parking Zook' control Plan
Science Factory will continue the following three -phase plan to ensure that the impacts of
r.le parking on the areas surrounding property already leased to The Science Factory are
phase 1— Designated Vehicle Parking
Vehicle parking is a strictly controlled effort that ensures cars are driven and parked in
appropriate and designated locations. We strive to ensure that vehicles do not traverse and are
not parked in locations that have the potential to cause irreparable damage to parklands.
Specifically, vehicle owners are:
• not allowed to park within 10 feet of the northside of Pre's Trail, and not allowed
to park on the souhside of Pre's Trail:
• prevented from driving on the Prefontaine trail;
• prevented from driving or parking within 15 feet of the top bank of any pond;
• prevented from parking within 6 feet of the west boundary tree line;
• prevented from parking closer than 3 feet to the sidewalk on the south side of Leo
Harris Parkway;
• prevented from driving over curbs/other obstacles to enter or exit parking areas;
• not allowed to exceed 5 mph;
• not allowed to keep engines running once the vehicle is parked;
• forbidden to honk horns to celebrate; and,
asked to leave if their vehicle has obvious mechanical defects or damage that
might cause harm to grounds;
• not allowed to park under the drip line of any tree.
The Science Factory uses a number of mechanisms to ensure compliance with these rules
including direct action by personnel who are on -site during any parking operation. We use the
placement of traffic cones and barricades and appropriate signs to guide drivers. Immediate
intervention to remedy infractions when they occur is used to limit the impacts rules violations
may have on the park.
Science Factory understands the the "Duck Pen" bicycle parking facility, operated by the Eugene
Active 20-30 Club, will be installed for the 2006 football season in the same location used in
200f This space will not be available for football game motor vehicle parking.
Phase 2 — Football Game Tailgating
Football parking is generally accompanied by tailgating and with it comes additional concern
about impacts on the park. The Science Factory has had good success in the past with our
parking members respecting the fact they are on public parkland. We anticipate that level of
cooperation to continue. To ensure compliance with basic rules for tailgating, the Science
Pacer. 1 nf7. - Parkino (7ontml Plan
