I am concerned about the land
swap and payment of $68,000 that has left my neighborhood without
accessible open space and will probably result in another section of
Gilham Road being bordered by 6' fences. I would like to know if the land
was dispersed after any sort of public hearing, whether other developers
were solicited to ensure that the city got the best deal possible, if there
has been any sort of agreement with the developer to provide community
access to the tract traded and on what sort of timeline. Who lost la dd How
the funds and who has been given the task of replacing our
can we make sure that they will be spent in a timely manner to buy more
land? Will there be sufficient funds to purchase 3.1 acres of park land for
our neighborhood? Are there plans to develop the park(s)? I would like to
know who the officials directly responsible for this deal are, perhaps they
should be part of a plan to compensate the citizens of this neighborhood -
or at least explain it to a public gathering.
I had contacted various departments and officials last spring about
planting some native trees on our former land. My Councilman did not
return my (numerous) calls. This time Jim Torrey not only called me back
but requested that I document some of my concerns by writing this letter.
Please forward a copy to him.
Sincerely,
lz r y
John Newsom
