Hammitt, Bob
From: Etter, John
To: Andersen, Chris; Hammitt, Bob; Medlin, Johnny
Subject: Gilham Park SiteTrade — Public Process
Date: Friday, October 29, 1993 9:31 AM
Last night I presented the Gilham Park Trade proposal to a poorly attended meeting of the Cal Yound
Neighbors -10 people including me. I feel very good about how the meeting went, however there must be
another one that includes some alleged skeptics who were upset about the E -W collector street being included in
the Willakenzie Plan in that vicinity, and who had some related feelings about the park.
There were three people who responded with typical skepticism. Once they were educated as to optimum siting,
size, visual and physical access, coordination with school plans, wetland considerations, the city attomey's
opinion that we are within the law on this type of trade because of this being consistent with the Willakenzie Plan,
etc. etc., they could see that the end result would be a net improvement.
Changing the minds of the skeptics strengthens my belief in the soundness of this proposal. I've requested to
meet with those from the Willakenzie Plan process who might not appreciate the benefits of this change. Names
will be forwarded to me. I feel confident that during a information sharing /questioning session—probably a repeat
of last night - -that the skepticism that would lead to vocal opposition can be eliminated.
I will keep you posted on this process. - -John
Page 1
