HAMMITT Bob
From: MEDLIN Johnny R
To: HAMMITT Bob
Subject: FW: Friendly Park Drainage Problems
Date: Wednesday, June 12, 1996 1:37PM
Hi Bob,
FAR below is the information you can use to go to Tim regarding Friendly Park. You can see John wanted
to add a note below about the recent decision to make storm funding available. I have some reservations
about adding that statement since we need to look at use of storm funds on a case by case basis and am
not sure we want to publicize it that much. You call on that.
Carrie can cut and paste from the below into any format you would like. Please let me know if you need
anything additional.
Thanks
Johnny
From: ETTER John F
To: MEDLIN Johnny R
Subject: RE: Friendly Park Drainage Problems
Date: Wednesday, June 12, 1996 12:34PM
The only thing I think is needed is some linkage between what we were saying in the past - -we don't have
enough funds - -to the present position of having funds. Maybe a sentence like: It has recently been
determined that this improvement qualifies for stormwater funding, which enables the project to move
ahead at this time." - -John
From: MEDLIN Johnny R
To: ETTER John F
Subject: Friendly Park Drainage Problems
Date: Wednesday, June 12, 1996 7:49AM
Hi John,
Would you please look over the below and comment prior to me sending it on to Bob.
Thanks
Johnny
*********.** . ** ** * * * * * * * *** * * * * * * * * * * * *** **
Hi Bob,
Public Works Maintenance has been aware of drainage issues at
Friendly Park for several years and has taken a number of
incremental steps to determine its cause and effect a
solution. Last year assistance was sought from the
Engineering Division in evaluating the drainage issues on this
site. This evaluation suggested that while some of the
problem likely could be attributed to uphill overflow from the
street intersection at 27th Avenue and Madison Street, it was
suspected that much of the problem within the park was caused
by natural seepage and topography.
Last summer a capital stormwater rehabilitation project was
completed which we felt addressed the street drainage
overflow at the intersection of 27th and Madison. This
project consisted of removal of 3 old gutter inlet catch
basins and replacement with combination curb inlet and gutter
Page 1
