•
Medlin, Johnny
From: CEEXLHN
Subject: Question
Date: Monday, October 11, 1993 3:14PM
FROM: RIS1(CEEXLHN)
TO: EUG001(CEWMJRM) DATE: 10 -11 -93
TIME: 15:19
CC:
SUBJECT: Question
PRIORITY:
ATTACHMENTS:
Date: 10/11/93
From: Linda Norris CEEXLHN - RIS1
To: Johnny Medlin CEWMJRM - EUG001
cc: Bob Hammitt CEWMJRH - RIS1
Subject: Question
Johnny, here's the answer to the questions you might get about,"Why are we
improving recreation facilities when we don't have enough fire stations ?"
Funds for ballfield lighting are included in this year's capital improvement
budget, adopted by City Council. One of Council's goals is to put more
emphasis on recreation, especially youth recreation. This emphasis is tied to
their goal on crime prevention because it provides a healty alternative for
youth and adult activities. This type of activity in parks also keeps the
parks safer for all users.
Fire redeployment involves constructing new fire stations so that we can meet
a four minute response time for fire and ambulance calls. This is a several
million dollar project. Council has decided to address funding for
fire redeployment, a new library, low- income housing, and parkland
acquisition after they find a way to fund core services in the general
fund. Council will be meeting in October and November to discussing ways of
funding the general fund deficit for core services. The FY95 general fund
deficit is forecasted to be between $3M and $5M.
(Call if you have questions, and good luck at your meeting tomorrow night.)
Linda
Page 1
