The fixtures
are mounted on wood crossorm supports, attached to wood poles opproximotely 45' obove
ground. My projected light level performance for this system is an initial overage footcondle
(FC) of 20FC for the infield, and 15FC for the outfield. Because of crossorm failure, pole
twisting, and lamp performance depreciation; the current light level ot the Shasta fields is
14FC overage for the infields, and 9FC average for the outfields.
Accepted stondords for recreational softball set by the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES)
exceed the current situotion at the Shasta facility considerably. The IES stondords are set ot
30FC for the infield and 20FC for the outfield. These light level standards are driven by two
issues: one, playability; and two, liability. At present the Americon Softball Ass. (ASA), the
United States Slowpitch Softball Ass. (USSSA) and Little League require these some standards
as o minimum level strictly for liobility reasons.
OPTIONS TO CONSIDFR:
Because the existing fixtures ore 1000 watts, and are attached to wood crossorms thot are in
dire need of replacement; the utilizotion of these fixtures to upgrade the lighting would cost
more than a new lighting system. Addtionol fixtures (6 to 8 per field) would need to be
purchased, and oll the fixtures would need to be attached to newly fobricoted steel crossarm
supports. Finally, the system would need to be redesigned by a outside engineering
consultont. Listed below ore two Musco optional approaches that will meet the lighting needs
of your facility:
— SC -2 Luminore Assemblies mounted on the existing poles: 26, 1500 watt fixtures
per field, producing o maintained overage FC of 30/20. Equipment cost per field would
be between $14,300 and $15,600; while installation would be between $5,000 and
U 9 A7,000.
`; TOTAL COST $19,300 TO $22,600 per field
Independent Representative for:
Official Lighting MUSCO
Consultant to the U.S.
Olympic Committee LIGHTING, INC.
36USC380
