open territory. Turf wars over a basketball court and stray bullets are a real possibility. I
hope you understand our perspective regarding your division's position in this potentiality.
Lastly, in my opinion, the lack of effective communication between Eugene Parks Planning
Department and families next to the park is fundamental to this issue. The last I heard was
that a CDBG hearing was to occur many months ago- the results of which were never
communicated. After such a long period of time, many of the people who live next to the
park, including myself, believed that Acorn Park Phase Two went into the dead file. A
number of working city park employees have often told me that "Phase Two" never
happens. However, I became alarmed last week that something was up when I observed
two contractor types out in the park. I immediately called and talked with John Long who
confirmed Eugene Park's intention to put in a basketball court into Acorn Park.
We were only able to spend a couple hours talking with neighbors regarding this petition. If
given a week, I'm sure the numbers of folks who would sign would be much greater. This
petition is the response to your actions by Eugene citizens most impacted by your
decisions. Please let us know how we can be of further assistance in your efforts to gain a
more accurate assessment of the needs of the Acorn Park neighborhood.
Sincerel ,
7 • c.
Justin C.
