Ballot Measure 26 -26 contains the following language: <br /> Caption: Bonds to preserve open space, parks; protect streams, fish, wildlife. <br /> Question: Shall Metro preserve open space for parks, trails, wildlife; protect streams for fish; <br /> issue $135.6 million in general obligation bonds? If bonds are approved, they will be <br /> payable from taxes on property ownership that are not subject to the limits of <br /> section 11 b, Article XI of the Oregon Constitution. <br /> Summary: Buys specified open space in the region. Approved bonds will: <br /> • Preserve local lands for parks and trails. <br /> • Maintain water quality in rivers and streams. <br /> • Protect salmon, trout, steelhead. <br /> • Provide areas for walking, picnicking and other outdoor recreation. <br /> Buying open spaces for public use will balance private development in the region. <br /> Bonds mature in not more than 30 years. Bond cost estimate is about 22 cents per <br /> $1000 of assessed value per year.
