• City to force in Franklin to 30th Connector ?
Concerned about traffic through your Neighborhood ?
Come to the "Eugene Local Street Plan" Public Hearing
this Tuesday, November 7th, 7:30 - City Council Chambers
15 years ago, Eugene promised that our Neighborhoods would never be connected to 30th
Street. Now they've broken one of those promises. Can the other promises be far behind?
On October 30th, Fairmount Neighbors voted 55 -0 (with 6 abstentions) to oppose the
proposed "Laurel Hill Connector" running from Spring at 30th (Fairmount Neighborhood)
through the Laurel Hill Valley to 1 -5. They also voted 59 -0 (with 4 abstentions) asking the
City to work with our Neighborhoods' refinement plans before designing streets. Laurel Hill
Valley passed a similar motion.
Folks on Spring, Central, 27th, Columbia, and Agate are concerned. While the existing
plan DOES NOT specifically punch a road through from 30th at this time, the new Connec-
tor through Laurel Hill brings a roadway within 600 feet of the Fairmount Neighborhood. In
addition, there is an existing right of way so that the city or county could connect the new
road with Spring or Central at any time. Transportation officials say there are nosuch
plans "at the moment." They said that about Laurel Hill as late as one year ago.
Why should you testify at the Public Hearing Tuesday ?
Some principles to consider :
• Traffic should be directed away from neighborhoods
• Neighborhood Refinement plans should be respected
• Street patterns directly affect neighborhood character
• Don't sacrifice neighborhoods for the sake of traffic speed
• Direct neighborhood involvement enhances planning
Jeff Osanka, Fairmount Chair, 345 -0931, osanka@edlane.lane.edu
Ginnie Lo, Fairmount Board, 683 -2667
Richard Cundiff, Laurel Hill leader, 683 -1350
