Ridgeline Area Vision and Action Plan
Partnership Meeting
Lane Council of Governments
6.12.2006
Community Outreach
Most planning projects need an overall plan or set of strategies for involving the public throughout the planning
process —and beyond. Educating the public (residents, land owners, visitors) about the project, bringing them into
the decision - making or planning process, and helping them make a physical connection with project resources can be
important in getting their support. The purpose of each public meeting, workshop, media event, or other venue
should be clear to both the planners and the participants.
Developing key contacts within the community to help generate interest and relay project news can be an effective
strategy for garnering trail support. Consider presentations to civic clubs, senior centers, and schools. Create a
mailing list for the communities and resource agencies in the project area. Add the names of participants at each
meeting or event.
r Questions for Framing a Project Outreach Plan
1. What part should the public play in your project?
