I know that it is wending its way
through Public Works as quickly as they can address it, but I would very much appreciate hearing any
concerns or questions you might have.
I have placed a copy of the full proposal in the City Manager's office for your convenience. It
addresses the issues contained in the Request for Proposal sent out by Public Works in March, and
includes our overall educational goals, rough site and building plans, cage designs, background
information on our organization and directors, list of advisory board members, and letters of support
and cooperation from other organizations such as Lane ESD, Natural History Musem, and WISTEC.
As first stated in the preliminary proposal last October, we feel that the development of a nature
center emphasizing birds of prey and their habitat would be both unique to the West Coast and a
strong addition to the amenities of Eugene - as an educational resource, an adjunct to recreational
outings on the Ridgeline Trail, and as an end -point destination for families outside Eugene.
We will be featured in a Community Television program called While America Sleeps airing on
Tuesday, October 5 at 9:30 pm. While we mention the goal of a nature center only briefly, it may
give you a better understanding of the work that we do. We have also been covered recently on
KEZI, KMTR, and KVAL, as well as the Register -Guard and Springfield News, in connection with
the rescue, rehabilitation and release of an osprey and the topic of rabies. We have been a community
resource for several years, both in working with distressed wildlife and in providing public education
through informational displays at events such as the Eugene Celebration and County Fair, and
hundreds of school presentations. I am confident that there will be wide -spread support for the
establishment of this facility.
The proposal to purchase the property addresses, I believe, both your needs and ours, and I look
forward to.receiving your feedback on it. Thank you for your consideration.
ely,
1 ON p :
o uise A. m is el ilif---P—r
cc: Johnny Medlin, Chris Anderson - Public Works
I*
