This parcel <br /> is Important for both for its high natural resource values and for its recreational <br /> connectivity to the regional Ridgeline Park system. We're very excfted about <br /> the opportunity to permanently protect it <br /> The East Fork Amazon Headwaters parcel is probably the most pristine, <br /> unprotected natural area in the Eugene-Springfield metropolitan area, and is <br /> pate and open . one of the least disturbed habitat sites within Eugene's South Hills. The area <br /> Space Mamba surrounding it has been designated for natural and scenic resource <br /> preservation and in fact, over the past five years as opportunities became <br /> available, the city has purchased 74 acres to increase water quality, preserve <br /> t Urban Forestry natural habitat and provide connections to the Ridgeline Park, a 1000+ acre <br /> i r deede tenvays eed °Pee regional open space amenity serving the entire metropolitan area. The city <br /> has also received Recreational Trail Program grant funding t� help maintain <br /> and develop neighborhood trail connections to the Ridgeline Park system. <br /> Recognizing the importance of this site, The Nature Conservancy has agreed <br /> to provide $300,000 of bridge funding to allow the City to purchase the site, <br /> with the understanding that the city will reimburse them when funding is <br /> obtained. For this reason, we are applying for a waiver of retroactivity <br /> concurrent with this grant application. <br /> The city has committed the last $150,000 remaining from the open space <br /> acquisition portion of the 1998 bond along with $150,000 from a stream <br /> corridor protection fund to purchase this site.
