SAMPLE PRESS RELEASE
(Grant Recipient) announced that they will receive a $ grant
from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) to fund (describe project).
The grant is one of 16 Local Government Grants approved by the Oregon Parks
Commission in a September 2nd meeting in Baker City.
OPRD received requests for 48 projects totaling over $6 million dollars in funding
assistance. Projects were scored based on local recreation needs and planning,
partnerships, public support, timeliness, sustainability, source of funding and committee
member evaluation.
Established by the 1999 Legislature, the Local Government Grants program
helps eligible government agencies fund projects to acquire, develop and rehabilitate
community parks and public outdoor recreation areas and facilities. The 2003
Legislature allocated funding for the mid - biennial grants in the 2003 -2005 Oregon Parks
and Recreation Department (OPRD) budget, contingent on an increase in lottery fund
revenue. OPRD awarded $4.5 million in lottery- funded Local Government Grants earlier
in the biennium (August 2003).
Eligible agencies include cities, counties, ports, METRO, and park and recreation
districts.
(Grant recipient) will match the state grant with $ to fund the
(total project cost) cost of the (name project) project. The Local Government Grant
program provides up to 50 percent funding assistance for cities with populations over
5,000 and counties with more than 30,000 residents. Program rules require smaller
cities and counties to contribute 40 percent in matching funds.
