Goal 9: Support Facilities and Materials <br /> Provide support facilities and materials (maps and guides) for users of the ridgeline trail system and <br /> other recreational uses. <br /> Recommended Actions and Strategies: <br /> A. Provide adequate parking facilities at major trailhead locations to prevent unsafe parking <br /> situations or conflict with neighboring property owners. <br /> B. Provide adequate bus parking at select trailheads to accommodate school field trips. <br /> C. Provide way- finding and informational signage at all trailheads that describe trail conditions, <br /> routes, permitted users, and trail rules. <br /> D. Provide way- finding signage at all trail junctions to help avoid confusion and potential trespass. <br /> E. Install benches at key locations and vista points along the trail network. <br /> F. Provide bicycle racks at trailheads and other public facilities in the ridgeline area. <br /> G. Provide restrooms at key locations along the trail system (similar to the Meadowlark Prairie <br /> overlook). Site restrooms in locations that are less likely to be vandalized. <br /> H. Provide picnicking facilities and trash receptacles. <br /> I. Produce a ridgeline trail map /brochure that is available to the public via the web and hard copies <br /> distributed by ridgeline partners. The map could include information such as trailhead locations; <br /> viewpoints; trail lengths and difficulty; suggested routes; educational information; and GPS <br /> coordinates of key features. <br /> Goal 10: Educational Resource <br /> Utilize the natural and cultural resources of the ridgeline area as an educational resource: <br /> Recommended Actions and Strategies: <br /> A. Provide direct trail connections from nearby schools where feasible so they can more easily <br /> utilize the area as an educational resource. <br /> B. Develop a comprehensive interpretive plan which directs the installation of interpretive signage, <br /> artwork, and interventions at key points along the ridgeline trail network. Topics may include <br /> plants, wildlife, geology, human history, and ongoing habitat management efforts. <br /> C. Work with School District 4J, Bethel School District, Crow - Applegate - Lorane School District, the <br /> Willamette Resources Education Network (WREN), Nearby Nature, Science Factory, Rachel <br /> Carson High School, Long Tom Watershed Council, University of Oregon, Lane Community <br /> College and other established educational entities to develop curriculum specific to the ridgeline <br /> area. <br /> Tourism <br /> Goal 1: Facilities <br /> Work to create a critical mass of recreational amenities and facilities in the ridgeline area to attract <br /> tourists from around the region and the country. <br /> Recommended Actions and Strategies: <br /> A. Implement the Ridgeline Open Space Vision. <br /> Goal 2: Promotion <br /> Promote the ridgeline open space system and the associated recreational facilities. <br /> Recommended Actions and Strategies: <br /> A. Work with existing area tourism promoters such as chambers of commerce and the Convention <br /> and Visitors Association of Lane County (CVALCO) to highlight the ridgeline area's scenic and <br /> recreational amenities, taking advantage of the growing interest in eco- tourism. <br /> 9 <br />
