02/28/02 11:48 FAX 541 984 4724 EWEB PUB.AFFAIRS !ooa • 2 effort for some time to come. we understand that EWEB has donated water meters and waived SDC charges for certain other installations of spigots or drinking fountains on public properties (e.g., at the Masonic Cemetary, at Skinner's Butte park, and along the Adidas running trail). The donation of a 1" water meter and spigot, located at the northwest corner of Rasor Park (along River Road), would be of immeasurable help to our volunteer effort at this park, and would enable us to get the next phase of this demonstra- tion and public education project off to a vigorous start. We estimate that we will need up to 1,400gallons of water per week the first summer (19,600 gal- lons total), and half of that for the second summer (9,800 gallons total). This is based on five gallons of water per tree and shrub each week in the first summer, and five gallons every other week in the second summer (actually, we use a little less than this for shrubs). We have typically watered from mid -June until late September (14 weeks). Note that this installation could be a temporary one, as there is no plan for permanent irrigation at the site (though the City does hope to install a drinking fountain at the park at some point in the future). Only native trees and shrubs will be planted, and these will need to be watered only until they are established - -they will be completely on their own after their sccond summer.
