City ignored appeal
The Eugene Planning Commission held a
public hearing on April 16. It was consider-
ing an appeal of a permit that was granted to
build an indoor soccer field on the Willam-
ette Greenway at Rasor Park.
With the lone exception of the architects
on the project, everyone spoke against locat-
ing it on the greenway. Many documents
were submitted as well. The commission
promised a careful consideration and re-
view,
with a final decison on April 23.
Scott Meisner and his thoughtful crew
proceeded to rubber -stamp the original deci-
sion and deny the appeal. I received the full
packet with the decision, typed and printed
and sent out with an April 23 date on it in
my mailbox three days later, on April 20.
As compelling as the arguments against
this permit were and as nonsensical as the
original decision was, this is clearly another
case of "let the masses have their say and
we'll do what we're going to do anyway."
This is happening all too often in Eugene .
these days. We are letting the people with
the least imagination and greatest special
interests ruin the environment we will be
living in.
JOHN KIELAS 2 /-zi. -7 6
Eugene
