MORGAN Dick A
From: GRISSELL Dee
To: MORGAN Dick A
Subject: OSHA Notes for Owen Rose Garden
Date: Tuesday, April 02, 1996 12:31 AM
On April 1, no foolin, we had a surprise visit from Michael McCarthy, the senior Safety compliance Officer
with Oregon OSHA. Apparently this was a general inspection initiated by his supervisor, ( this was the
card I showed you the other day). She had written down specific infractions and my assumption is that ,
having this knowledge put them in the liability seat, with her wishes to pass the buck back into our laps.
Chuck was concerned that this should have been a complaint as opposed to a general. Regardless, here are
the specifics:
1. No red card on the phone indicating emergency #'s. (ex. 9 -911 etc.) Chuck should have these available
to us.
2. Division Safety meeting notes not posted on the bulletin board . (They are now!)
3. The ground prong on both the toaster and the microwave has been cut off. Numerous components of
the electrical system are not grounded. The neutral as well as the ground is hot, an apparent reverse
polarity within the system. This infraction is of a serious nature!
4. No cover on an electrical wire within the restroom. The wire was hot. ( a simple cover will correct this
one)
5. A type 111 "home owner" style ladder was apparently in use. (This needs to go to the auction!)
6. Dead vermin on the restroom floor. ( This one's history!)
7. The apparent conflict of the garage sink unit being utilized for food preparation as well as its close
proximity to the pesticide storage, and the washing of hands after pesticide applications. There needs to be
a totally seperate unit for each function. Preferably with an eye wash system on the pesticide sink. ( This
would possibly be of a serious nature as well)
8. Complete closure and inability to access the condemed section of the facility is required. Doors need to
be nailed shut and a hard covering should replace the plastic.
Page 1
