601 P01 JAN 21 '97 10:07
PBS
January 20, 1997 ■ ■el*411 00?AL
Mr. Chuck Solin p t~ brand tax transmit - i memo 7671 A
City of Eugene T. ,.4 v GK L.1
777 Pearl St., Suite 101
Eugene, Oregon 97401
Dept.
Chuck:
Attached are the results of lead-based paint and asbestos sampling conducted at the Owens Rose
Garden maintenance building in Eugene. Paint samples from wood components, representing the
exterior and portions of the interior of the building (see inventory for sample locations) were
collected and submitted for analysis for total lead. One sample of suspected asbestos - containing
material (damaged vinyl floor tile) was collected and analyzed for the presence of asbestos.
The building is wood - framed, with concrete slab foundation, and an asphalt- composition roof. With
the exception of one bathroom, interior surfaces are predominantly wood paneling without paint.
Exterior is painted wood, with at least one underlying layer of paint. Paint samples were collected
from the interior and exterior of the building, and represent all observed painted surfaces. Samples
were collected using approved sample collection methods by a certified lead inspector.
The asbestos sample represents all observed friable suspect materials, and was collected using
approved methods by an AHERA- certified inspector. Roofing materials are not friable, and were not
sampled.
Paint samples were analyzed for lead using atomic absorption spectrometry, with results reported in
parts per million (ppm). The asbestos sample was analyzed using Polarized Light Microscopy
(PLM). The lead sample analysis indicates levels of lead ranging from <83 ppm to 4,910. The
asbestos analysis indicates that no asbestos is present in the floor tile sample.
If you have additional questions concerning this report, please feel free to contact me directly.
Chuck Gottfried
Manager, Eugene Operations
A.IFIERA Certification PD -95-2272
Georgia Technical Institute Pb Inspector Cert. #196
ENVIRONMENTAL
MANAGEMENT
AND CONSULTING
2645 Willamette Strect.
