I appreciate your bringing to my attention your feelings
that Parks and Open Space Division staff have not been responsive to your needs. I agree with
your concern that two months without word is too long for us to take in getting back to you
regarding potential designs for the potential Rose Society $5,000 donation. I have spoke with the
involved staff on the issue and I expect they either already have contacted you or will soon do so.
I do want to add a little in their defense. There is a great deal of work expected of that small
group of planning staff. Their first priority has been getting a number of park bond design
projects finished. The second priority has been providing information and support to the Mayor's
Committee who are working on developing a new Parks, Recreation, and Open Space
Comprehensive Plan. Also there were a few other citizen requests which required some design
work that had begun prior to our meeting with you in March.
That all being said, you still at least should have been contacted regularly with status updates. For
this not having happened, 1 apologize. I hope there is still the opportunity for us to work
together on this potential donation. I will certainly respect any decision you make on the issue.
Sincere ,
ohnny R Medlin, Director
Parks and Open Space Division
cc: Andrea Rifler
John Weber
