The club
and its members vigorously oppose the project to turn Barger Pond into a golf
course.
The WVRC has held dog training and club activities in the Barger Pond area
for over 18 years. During that time, WVRC has maintained the construction
of the bridge and gates. Funds from the WVRC have been used exclusively for
this purpose and for cleanup and foliage control in the area.
Barger is the only area of its kind in the Willamette Valley. Without this
land, the club will not be able to hold its field trial events. A minimum of
four events are held each year (3 days each), bringing people from all over
the country to the Eugene area to compete. This revenue is important to the
local business community as well as the WVRC.
Barger is already a well used and appreciated natural area within the city
of Eugene. There are already many golf courses in the Eugene area - - -but this
is a "one of a kind" facility for retriever field trials and the appreciation
of a natural park -like area.
Please let us know what can be done to maintain Barger for its current use.
Any information you can give us on the upcoming analysis and decision would
be greatly appreciated. We need your support.
Sincerely,
Susan E.
