Public /Private Partnerships
With many types of revenue declining, and demand for park and open space facilities continuing to
remain high, public /private partnerships, are becoming a more important tool for park development.
Two current examples of such partnerships are the City Center SkatePark and the Washington Park
Spray Play.
The City Center SkatePark is a collaboration with the private community group Skaters for Eugene Skate
Parks. This group has pledged to raise $200,000 towards the design and construction of a major new
skate park in Washington- Jefferson Park, which the City will match with nearly $300,000 in Park SDC
funds allocated in the CIP. Both the City and Skaters for Eugene Skate Parks will seek grant funds, and
the latter will also fundraise in the local community.
The Washington Park Spray Play is a joint project with the Eugene Parks Foundation, which is working
to raise funds to replace the wading pool in Washington Park with a spray play facility. The City will
provide $75,000 and the Foundation will match that amount.
Public /private collaborations, such as these two, leverage city funding and enable greater
accomplishments in times of limited revenue and funding.
Parks and Open Space -
Related Service Profiles
Infrastructure Project and Information Management (next update: fall 2010)
Parks and Open Space (next update: fall 2012)
Urban Forestry (next update: fall 2010)
