The City of Eugene enjoys the services of a very competent city attorney and can <br /> easily avail ourselves of the resources of one of the premier forestry programs in <br /> the country at Oregon State University. It would be irresponsible to proceed <br /> without utilizing these resources. <br /> I believe that we need more evidence as is set out above in order to make a sound <br /> recommendation to the greater community regarding the future management of <br /> the trees in Hendricks Park. The evidence we have heard thus far weighs heavily <br /> against removal of any of the eighteen targeted trees. Tree #28 should to be <br /> "topped" since that tree is clearly dying in any event. However, the tallest snag <br /> possible should be left for wildlife habitat. The remaining trees in the grove <br /> should a be monitored closely and in the event a tree gives evidence that it will <br /> fall in the near future it should be removed at that time.
