Tour guides will identify plants, offer historical information about <br /> Hendricks Park, and answer gardening questions. Tours begin at 1 p.m. under the covered <br /> picnic shelter. <br /> Hendricks Park is located on the eastern edge of Eugene's south hills ridgeline forest. <br /> In addition to the internationally recognized rhododendron garden, the 77 -acre park contains <br /> 300- year -old fir trees and several hiking trails overlooking the Willamette River, the <br /> University of Oregon, and the city of Eugene. Founded in 1951 through the joint efforts of <br /> the American Rhododendron Society and the Eugene Parks Department, the 8 -acre <br /> rhododendron garden within the park displays more than 3,000 rhododendrons and azaleas. <br /> The park is accessible by car, bicycle, or bus. Follow Walnut Street to Fairmount <br /> Boulevard, then east on Summit Avenue. Or take the #27 Fairmount bus to the Summit <br /> Avenue stop and walk up the pathway along Summit.
