HAMMITT Bob
From: JONES Eric R
To: STANSFIELD Adrian E; MORGAN Dick A; HAMMITT Bob; ANDERSEN Chris F; BROWN
Leslie M
Date: Thursday, April 03, 1997 8:30AM
Here's the answer I gave to Jim Boyd at the R -G in response to his question, "How much overtime, if any,
is paid to staff the spring garden tours at Hendricks Park ":
We're anticipating approximately 16 hours of weekend work associated with the 8 spring tours this year.
Typically in the past, employees have chosen to take time off to compensate for the weekend time they
spend as tour guides. So, typically there haven't been any direct overtime costs. However, all of our
programs allow for some limited overtime, depending on the circumstances and need. Because of the
limited number of staff hours involved in the garden tours, even if overtime were used for a portion of the
hours the cost would be relatively small.
Jim then confided to me that he was asking the question on behalf of Don Bishoff, who apparently was
ranting and raving that the City is offering garden tours (a service he felt could be easily privatized) at the
same time that the butte access road is proposed to be closed. We then briefly discussed the very minimal
savings (I characterized it as less than $500) that might be realized if the garden tours weren't provided by
the City, and Jim felt that this was a dead issue as far as he was concerned.
EricJ
Page 1
