EUGEN
July 1, 1997
CONTACT: Scott Plamondon, Urban Forester, 682 -4800
From Public Information Section, 682 -5523
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DROP -IN SESSION SLATED JULY 17 ON HENDRICKS PARK TREE REMOVALS
An opportunity for the public to receive information and comment on the proposed
removal of 18 diseased fir trees in Hendricks Park will be held on Thursday, July 17, from 4 to 6
p.m. at the Hendricks Park shelter. At the drop -in information session, the City's Urban Forester
will be on hand to answer questions and receive comments about the proposed removals.
These trees are proposed to be removed this summer because of disease and the hazards
they pose for nearby residents and park users. The trees proposed to be removed will be posted
on July 1 so interested parties can locate and view the specific trees prior to the July 17
information session.
All of the trees proposed for removal are on the east side of the park and are within 200
feet of residences or structures. There are approximately 120 fir trees in that general area, and
the diseased trees will be removed carefully by a contractor to minimize damage to the natural
area and newly planted trees as well as the world - renowned floral garden in Hendricks Park.
# ##
Public Wnrkc • Ariminictratinn • City of Fnnen• • RCP Poa rl • Fnnone f1R Q71f11 -9797 • Phnne' 1501 RR9 -5789 • FAX (5.411 RR9 -RR9R
