City of Eugene wire theft totals for 2007 <br /> Beginning in March 2007 through Nov. 2007 the City of Eugene contracted with EC <br /> electric co. to replace the stolen wire and secure junction boxes to deter future theft. <br /> The total footage of wire replaced by the contractor was more than 93,000' of Copper <br /> wire and a total of 764 junction boxes were secured using tamperproof bolts and crack <br /> sealant. The total cost to EC electric was just over $135,000.00. The City of Eugene <br /> supplied a full time electrician/inspector and supplied thousands of feet of wire, junction <br /> boxes,jb lids, pvc and rigid conduit, conduit fittings,ground bushings and labor for at <br /> least 3 months prior to beginning of contract. The city's electrician spent numerous man <br /> hours determining total damage to the lighting system and preparing documents and <br /> accurate billing statements to ensure proper figures were forwarded to finance. The City <br /> of Eugene also supplied 60 each 20001b concrete blocks placed on top of the junction <br /> boxes to help deter future theft in the most problematic areas. The total cost for the City <br /> of Eugene for 2007 wire theft was approximately $250,000.00. <br />
