<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />July 16, 2014 <br /> <br />CONTACT: Lindsay Selser, Transportation Options Coordinator, 541-682-5094 <br /> <br />From Public Information Section, 541-682-5523 or 541-954-2938 <br /> <br />FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> <br /> <br />Eugene Sunday Streets to Draw Thousands Downtown July 20 <br /> <br />On Sunday, July 20, from noon to 4 p.m. people will be able to walk, roll, bike, and dance in <br />the streets along a car-free route along Fifth Avenue and at the new WJ Skatepark + Urban Plaza in <br />Washington Jefferson Park. A second event will be held September 21 in the Harlow neighborhood. <br />Sunday Streets Downtown is presented by the City of Eugene with support from the <br />Summer In The City program and Point2Point Solutions at Lane Transit District. This summer <br />marks the fourth year of Eugene Sunday Streets, a free event that focuses on building community <br />and promoting active lifestyles. <br />Washington Jefferson Park and Fifth Avenue near Pearl Street will feature activity centers <br />along the route. The activity center at Washington Jefferson Park will include a skateboard clinic at <br />the new skatepark, roller derby lessons and free scrimmage, learn-to-bike lessons, and pedal- <br />powered music stage featuring the Chumlo Bros., Soulicious, Calongo and Olive DelSol. They City of <br />Eugene in partnership with the FireMed program will be giving away over 350 free helmets, sized <br />toddler to adult. The Helmet Giveaway begins at 2 p.m. at the WJ Activity Center. <br />The 5 Avenue at Pearl Block Party, a partnership with local businesses, will feature yard <br />th <br />games by Playground Sports, Bike Shop Expo, and live musical performances by the North Eugene <br />Ukulele Orchestra. <br />With no designated start or finish, the two-way car-free route can be enjoyed by foot, <br />bicycle, roller skates, or dancing at everyone’s own pace.
