MEMO
Meeting
19 Eugene Sustainable Development
To: Participants in Apn 9 g g
From: Bob Doppelt
Re: Change in Meeting Location, Starting and Ending Times, and Updated Agenda
Date: April 14, 1005
Change of Meeting Venue: Due to space limitations at the Eugene Public Library, the
brainstorming meeting on sustainable development scheduled for next Tuesday, April 19,
has been MOVED to the offices of Rexius, at 1275 Bailey Hill Rd. in SW Eugene.
Please make a note of this change. Space is limited so please RSVP if you plan to attend
and have not already done so.
Travel and Parking Instructions: Take W. 11th to Bailey Hill Rd. Left on Bailey Hill
Rd. to first driveway on left (1/4 mile) AFTER crossing the Amazon. Follow driveway
along Amazon to rear of building. The parking area to the North and behind the building
will be open. Please enter the BACK DOOR where signs will be posted. The meeting
area is upstairs.
Start and End Times: Also note the doors will open at 12:30 PM for registration and
networking time. We will start promptly at 1 PM and end between 4:30 and 5 PM.
Attendees: Due to space limitations we were not able to involve everyone that wanted to
attend. However, this is just the first of many meetings that will be held to hear from
community members regarding their views of sustainable development in Eugene. Rest
assured that every community member and organization that desires to participate and
offer ideas will have ample opportunity in the very near future.
Sustainable Development Strategy Process: The attached memo from Mayor Piercy
explains the purpose and process as it stands today that will be used to move forward
with a sustainable development strategy.
Brainstorming Meeting Purpose: Participants are sure to have many questions about
what it means to craft a sustainable development strategy for Eugene. However, the
agenda is tight and does not provide a lot of time for answering questions. To the
contrary, no formal decisions of any type have been made. The meeting on April 19 is the
start of an extensive information gathering process intended to eventually answer many
of the questions people may have.
In specific, the purpose is to garner ideas from individuals representing key
constituencies and organizations or which provide important services (such as education,
energy, and health care) regarding what is important to them about the future of the
community and what a sustainability plan should address. Therefore, we ask that you
come prepared to share your thoughts on the questions asked. You may leave with as
many or more unanswered questions as you came with. However, we intend to be able to
4 answer those questions after the information gathering process is completed.
