MEMO
To: Eugene Business and Civil Leaders
From: Bob Doppelt
Re: Invitation to Meeting Tuesday April 19, 1 -4 PM, Eugene Public Library, to Discuss
City of Eugene Sustainability Plan
Date: April 1, 1005
You are invited to participate in a brainstorming meeting intended to obtain your ideas on
the creation of a sustainable development plan for the City of Eugene. This event will
provide valuable information that Mayor Kitty Piercy and her team will use to construct
the process that leads to the sustainability plan.
Please RSVP by return email to let us know if you plan to attend the meeting.
Co- Chairs: We are honored that Rusty Rexius of Rexius /Grant, and current Board Chair
of the Eugene Chamber of Commerce, and David Funk of Funk/Levis and Associates
have agreed to co -chair the process of creating a sustainable development plan.
Staff Support: Student interns from the University of Oregon will work with me to
support and staff the process.
Kick -Off Brainstorming Meeting: Tuesday, April 19, from 1 -4 PM at The Bascom
Room at the Eugene Public Library (1 floor). This day and time may not work for
everyone but we hope most of you can attend. The meetings purposes are to:
a) Explain the goals and expected outcomes of the process to create a sustainable
development plan.
b) Provide information and hold a dialogue to help everyone obtain a basic
understanding of what sustainable development could mean at the
local /community level.
c) Learn what should be included in a sustainability plan for the city and the best
ways to achieving it.
d) Do a little brainstorming on what people think the community would look and
function like in 20 years if at that time it was considered a sustainable community.
A draft agenda can be found at the end of this memo.
Task Force
Following the April 19 meeting, Mayor Kitty intends to appoint a task force that will be
charged with the task of developing a draft sustainability plan for the City. To ensure that
the task force is of manageable size, it will be composed of a subset of those who attend
