fire Colette Kimball
1179 W. 5th Ave.
Eugene OR 97402
December 9, 1996
Mr. Dick Morgan
Eugene Parks Maintenance
1820 Roosevelt
Eugene, OR 97402
Dear Mr. Morgan,
I am writing to convey our interest in buying the southwest section of Scobert Park
which your department fenced off last winter.
This section of the park has been an ongoing problem for the neighborhood as a sight
for buying, selling and using drugs and alcohol, as well as illegal camping and eluding
police officers. Currently it is fenced, gated and locked from public use and is
dubiously called a "community garden." However as a community garden it has
gibe become a sight for growing marijuana plants, tethering unmonitored dogs, and other
abuses of its "free gardening" status, and has had no management as far as we can
tell.
Money from the sale of this piece if property would be a wonderful source of income for
improvements to other areas of Scobert Park. Input from community meetings has
suggested an interest in improved playground equipment, playground equipment for a
broader age range of children (which have been a big attraction in the newly added
playground at Maurie Jacobs Park), as well as other improvements that might benefit
from this sale.
If you which to discuss this further, I can be reached during the day at 683 -9278.
Sincerely,
C ereitt
Colette Kimball
cc. Jim Johnson
Dave Whitlow
