It should go up on Monday so we can do some communicating about it.
Linda
From: HAMMITT Bob
To: WHITLOW Dave A; BREMER Richard B; BRETT Tom A; ANDERSEN Chris F; LYLE Les A
Cc: RIKHOFF Greg S; NORRIS Linda H; WEILER Phil J
Subject: RE: Scobert Park
Date: Friday, September 27, 1996 5:38AM
We could do the fence Fri if the green mesh arrives. We ordered it special and was to be delivered Fri
morn. Our crews begin at 6:30 am and are assigned then. Would have to pull them from assignments
which is inefficient. Could certainly do if important to get fence up Fri. Seems if we put up fence Mon
and began restoration work it would place parks staff in the park for couple days which could also serve as
fence monitor to take the pressure off police staff. Bob feels we
should proceed with the alignment recommended by the committee
or something very similar. He recommends this because it
seems to be the only apparent consensus that has been reached
by any group to date that is representative of multiple sides.
He and his staff recommend the fence be located south of the
bench on the west side and then follow the outside of the
sidewalk and then end south of the bench on the east side
(hope north is up). They recommend the material be the green
plastic mesh that we typically use to protect trees in
construction areas (usually orange).
In the area were turf is needing to be restored to the north,
they will use signs and will rope the area off. The signs
will indicate the area has been reseeded and to please stay
off. They will use a similar approach used in other parks for
this type of routine maintenance.
With respect to timing of some of the initial maintenance
work, they are recommending going in and removing the
dangerous elements of the playground and removing the stumps
before roping off the areas to be reseeded. Since heavy
equipment is required, doing this work first will avoid damage
to the seeded area. The fencing along the sidewalk could go in
on Monday unless a final decision by Linda occurs early on
Friday.
Applications for the committee are being prepared as I write
this note. A display ad will go in the Guard on Saturday and
other materials will be available either Friday or as late as
Monday. Flyers will be displayed at various locations and
direct mail will occur to owners in the area as well as the
neighborhood group and other stakeholders.
